A friend of mine attached a story that he wrote in his last email. As I tried to open it it wouldn’t. I examined the file and discovered that it was a docx file and not a doc file.
After some research on the Internet, and finding the articles Open Docx Documents and Open Docx in Open Office I discovered the way to open the document in my Text Editor.
All I had to do was to download the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack which added support for docx documents to Word XP. And the story, well it was great and well worth the hassle.
