The first step to sales when customers visit your site to see the products they were looking for. Understanding Your Target Customer
If you design a website you think will attract consumers, but you don’t really know who your clients are and what they require to buy, it is unlikely you make much money. You can send email to your existing clients and ask them to complete a survey or even while they’re browsing on your website. Ask them about their choices. Why do they like your products? Always provide contact information, preferably on every page of your website, conclude with mailing address, telephone number and an email address that reaches you. People may need to contact you about sales, general information or technical problems on your site. It is the search engines that in the end get your website noticed by clients. Hence it is worthwhile to know how these search engines actually work and how they present information to the customer initiating a search.   

There are basically two types of search engines. The first is by robots called crawlers or spiders.

Search Engines use spiders to index websites. When you submit your website pages to a search engine by completing their wanted submission page, the search engine spider will index your entire site. A ‘spider’ is an automatic program that is run by the search engine system. Spider visits a web site, read the content on the actual site, the site’s Meta tags and also follow the links that the site connects. The spider then returns all that information back to a data depository, where the data is indexed. It will visit each link you have on your website and index those sites as well. Some spiders will only index a certain number of pages on your site, so don’t create a site with 500 pages!

The spider will periodically return to the sites to check for any information that has changed. The frequency with which this happens is determined by the moderators of the search engine.

A spider is almost like a book where it contains the table of , the definitive content and the links and references for all the websites it finds during its search, and it may index up to a million pages a day.

Example:  Excite, Lycos, AltaVista and Google.

When you ask a search engine to locate information, it is actually searching through the index which it has created and not actually searching the Web. Different search engines produce diverse rankings because not every search engine uses the same algorithm to search through the indices.

One of the things that a search engine algorithm scans for is the frequency and location of keywords on a web page, but it can also detect artificial keyword [stuffing] or spamdexing. Then the algorithms analyze the way that pages link to other pages in the Web. By checking how pages link to each other, an engine can both determine what a page is about, if the keywords of the linked pages are similar to the keywords on the original page.

Many people don’t know how easy it is for people to connect to their wifi and steal their internet and bandwidth. Why sharing your home internet with everyone that is near your house if you don’t want them to?

Well it is quite easy to prevent this from happening, all you have to do is to find the IP of the router, I mean the internal IP of the router, to do this simple connect to the router via a LAN or WAN and then run a command prompt usually referred to as CMD.

If you are running Windows XP just go to Start/Run and write cmd and press enter. If you are running vista press the start menu and in the ‘Start Search’ write cmd and press enter.

Now that you are in the command prompt just write down ipconfig and there you should see your internet connection, either marked as Local Area Network or Wireless Network Connection, and under that you will see some IP’, subnet mask and the default gateway.

Now, the default gateway IP is the IP of your router, or at least it should be. Now open your internet browser and in the address bar write that ip.

Now a login dialog should popup to login, usually it will be admin both for the user and password, if not check your routers manual. If you did login then you should see an easy to navigate website, in the menu search for something like Security, encryption, passkey or wireless settings.

Now there you have various options, search for something like security type, and I would recommend you choose WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK, choose an encryption type and enter a passkey. Now the router might reboot and you might get disconnected from your WAN, connect again and enter the passkey to connect.

Now only people that know that passkey will be able to share the internet connection, no one else will be able to do that unless illegally cracking it.

Netiquette (Internet Etiquette) - How to behave online for a better online experience

Perhaps this term is not so famous amongst people. This is a ‘technical’ word not so used, you might ask, what is this?

Now netiquette is basically the same basic things but obviously in a way on how to behave online. Rules may vary, for example now I’m writing this article, right, would you want to read this article in SMS language and full of acronyms, well I don’t think so. So that is a way of netiquette, but as said before not all rules apply at all circumstances, for example while on IRC, SMS language and acronyms are accepted on most Channels, so you see? The same rule is not accepted in one place but accepted into another.

While on forums, do you want someone to spam the forums with rubbish posts such as “Selling mobiles starting from $1, visit www…..com” with a huge font to ‘attract’ attention, well that too is a rule of Netiquette of no spamming. And back to IRC do you want a spammer saying the same sentence for like 50 times with copy/paste, and you end with a big lag? Well I don’t think so.

Forum etiquette

1. Certain rules of unspoken etiquette are recommended to be followed when using Internet forums.
2. One should read all the rules and guidelines established by the community. One should always be courteous to other forum members.
3. Before creating a new topic thread, one is advised to search to see if a similar topic already exists.
4. Contributors should follow standard grammar and spelling rules and avoid slang. Leet speak is sometimes accepted.
5. If the forum is categorized, one should strive to post in the correct section.
6. Contributors are asked to stay on-topic.
7. Contributors should avoid double posting and Cross posting.
8. Contributors should avoid the use of all CAPITAL LETTERS in posts.
